Blazer of Glory: Style Session with Guida Marcucci

Guida Marcucci—whose style BLOG, www.lovemyoutfit.com, is one of our faves—features fashion-savvy Bostonians in hopes of disproving the myth: “People in Boston don’t know how to dress.” Her personal sense of style is anything but conservative, combining bold colors, textures, exotic prints and killah shoes with classic pieces for look that’s on-its-game.

Guida is not afraid to have fun with her wardrobe, and often cuts, bleaches and adds studs to basic pieces to create funky looks that suit her unique personality. Her style cues come from icons like Gwen Stefani, and Guida strongly believes in the YSL adage, “Fashion fades, style remains.”

We spoke with Guida recently about her BLOG, her style and her Friday night go-to spot for fun on the town in Boston.

WP: Yours is a style Blog, and has some amazingly fresh looks. How can you tell when someone has style?

GM: When their outfit has a personality. Of course, I love a really bold, fashion-forward, unique outfit but you have to be a particular kind of person to pull it off.

WP: In your opinion, what’s the difference between fashion and style?

GM: Anyone can dress in the latest trends, but style is something you can't buy. Style is something you either have or don't.

WP: It’s unstylish when…..

GM: Girls don't dress for the current season. Open toed shoes, no tights, and a mini dress in January looks ridiculous. I get that girls want to look sexy but trying too hard is never sexy. Put on some tights, thigh high socks, and booties with that mini and it’s just as sexy.

WP: Name three pieces in your closet that you simply can’t live without?

GM: That's tough because it would really depend on the season, but in general I would have to say...Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers! I've been wearing them since I was a toddler! A black blazer is always a staple because it can transform any outfit and is always a safe go-to piece! And my faux fur winter jacket because it's way more comfortable than an itchy Pea-coat and is actually really warm!

WP: It’s Friday night—where can we find you?

GM: Stoddard's on Temple Street in Down Town Crossing. I love the overall ambiance of the place. It has a really hip vibe, friendly staff, delicious food, and seriously amazing cocktails!

WP: What is your daily mantra?

GM: You'll sleep when you die! This is how I'll guilt my friends into coming out with me when they are too tired. I think we all realize life is too short and fragile, so you might as well look good doing it!

Trend-forecaster, style maven, and Tumblr aficionado, Kara Laurent, holds a special place on the Wicked Peacock team. Our first intern, we love her for her killah style, ability to sniff the next big trends, and her overall enthusiasm and positive outlook on life. Like Coco Chanel, she believes, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

For someone so young, Kara has a trained eye, knows what she likes and isn’t afraid to push her style forward. Inspired by icons like the Olsen twins, Kourtney Kardashian, Olivia Palermo and Carrie Bradshaw, Sex in the City’s infamous style diva, Kara’s not afraid to be wildly outrageous, or hold back. She says, “I absolutely love pairing feminine clothing with edgy jewelry. That's probably why I'm so into the Wicked Peacock style! I like to layer my clothing and am always wearing too many accessories. My favorite colors are pink and blue, but I'm obsessed with crystals, spikes, studs, and skulls, at the moment.”

We caught up with Kara on the set of a recent shoot, and asked about her BLOG, her closet and her wicked sense of style!

WP: When did you start your visual BLOG, High Like Style?

KL: I started the BLOG two years ago, in July, 2010. It's been named a few other names until I've finally found the one that perfectly suited my blog, which ended up being named High like Style.

WP: Describe your BLOG?

KL: I use this outlet to show my true sense of style and what really inspires me. Everything I post underscores who I am as a person, especially in the fashion world. Sometimes I feel like fashion BLOGGING is like shopping in real life! If only I had everything featured on my Tumblr! It helps me come up with better ideas of styling, as well.

WP: Describe your closet?

KL: I love color in clothing. Don't get me wrong, I love black as well, and it's such an easy color to look stylish in. But color brings so much life to an outfit, and brings out moods and personalities. I have too many handbags and probably not enough shoes. I've suddenly taken up an obsession with flats, so that's currently what I'm building up on.

WP: Who is your favorite designer?

KL: Alexander McQueen's work was amazing. My favorite designers are constantly changing, but McQueen's work has beyond fascinating me and I love how his line is much different then to others. He was so daring and brought out the dark sides of life in beautiful ways.

WP: What are you future plans?

KL: I plan to travel....really travel. Whatever job I get I'd love to experience what the rest of the world is like, and have the opportunity to observe the different fashions all around the world.

WP: Where do you see yourself in fashion?

KL: I love people- I want to work with them, around them, and to deal with them. I love working with fashion hands on as well. To be a Buyer would be an absolute dream come true.

Look Book: Friendship Bracelets

Silvana Costa of the Wicked Peacock team and Fashion Blogger Nicolle Saylor got together for a friendship kind of neon shoot. "We pulled into this abandon lot, saw the motorcycle, and I said to Nicolle, 'Um, yeah!' The location was super sketchy. I really think we were spray painting the door to a some kind of secret clubhouse. There were people inside that didn't come out. They had to have known we were there."

The photo shoot, which was as vibrant as it was spontaneous, features fun and flirty friendship and string bracelets from Boston-based designer, Silvana Costa. This fun, summer bracelet is the perfect touch of neon!
